ABSTRACT Medical imaging and radiology x-ray films require manual processing of the automatic film processing. In 1942, the first automatic x-ray film processing prototype was presented. Utilizing specialized film racks, the first commercially available device could handle 120 films in an hour. When the first roller transport processor for processing medical radiography was established in 1956, the automatic x-ray film processing system saw a considerable development.
