MICROBIOLOGY OF THE RHIZOSPHERE
ABSTRACT: The rhizosphere is a dynamic region governed by complex interactions between plants and the organisms that are in close association with the root. The composition and pattern of root exudates affect microbial activity and population numbers, which in turn have an impact on the nematodes and microarthropods that share this environment. Beneficial or harmful relationships exist between rhizosphere organisms and plants, which ultimately affect root function and plant growth. In addition, the rhizosphere may include organisms that do not directly benefit or harm plants but clearly influence plant growth and productivity. A better understanding of the soil–root and soil–seed interface is needed to manage microorganisms, increase plant growth, and reduce the impact of plant production and agriculture on the environment. The benefits of studying the rhizosphere include the use of plant growth-promoting organisms and the suppression of plant diseases and weeds using biocontrol agents. Rhizosphere organisms can also be used to enhance the formation of stable soil aggregates and as bioremediation agents of contaminated soils. TABLE OF CONTENT: 1. Abstract 2. Introduction 3. Conclusion CHAPTER 1: Rhizosphere is the narrow region of soil or substrate that is directly influenced by root secretions and associated soil microorganism known as the root Microbiome. Rhizosphere is also the soil surrounding the plant root where root exudate migrate and microbiological activity is exceptionally high. During unfavourable conditions, the organic and inorganic compounds diffuse out of the root, such compounds are called Root exudates. Based on their proximity to the root system, the rhizosphere structure consists of three zones: Inner zone: It is also referred to as the Endorhizosphere. It is really close to the origin. It consists of the region of the cortex and epidermis. Rhizoplane: It is the actual root system. Outer zone: It is also known as the Exorhizoshere zone. This layer is located next to the epidermis.
