Though I began as a drummer but deep inside of me, I like the keyboard and wanted to learn but getting a tutor was a challenge and most of the keyboardist I met couldn't offer me good basic knowledge to start with and that was because they had a faulty foundation as a beginner. But in the year 2019, During my industrial training (IT) year after school, I met a young man who's name is Crowther a very good and passionate keyboardist, the founder of light music academy in Port-harcourt. Who taught me keyboard and within the space of three months, I could sound the keyboard greatly like a prof. Though I had little challenge in developing my earing ability, after I have mastered chords, to play along side with a singer was now a bridge I had to cross which seem a bit difficult to cross but overtime I was able to device a means of developing my earing ability and in this book, I will teach you how I developed my ears to sounds. FOUNDATION CLASS: BRIEF HISTORY OF PIANO: There are good reasons why the piano is the most popular instrument on the planet. The astounding power and dynamic range of the piano is nothing short of incredible, and with it, songwriters and performers are able to convey a wide range of moods, sounds, and emotions. As we make progress, I am going to show you how to play some popular piano songs, but first let’s talk about what the piano is and where it came from. The international musical landscape changed forever after an Italian instrument-maker named Cristofori invented the piano in 1700. When he decided to add a system of small striking-hammers to a harpsichord, an instrument that used a plucked-string system, he almost certainly had no idea how large of an impact his new instrument would have on the world. Foot pedals allow pianists to control the dynamics of what they’re playing, and this is what makes the piano a unique instrument. No other instrument since has been able to combine the range and dynamic power like the piano does. The piano’s role in modern songwriting is front and center in genres like rock, blues, and alternative, and many songwriters use the piano to write their songs whether the final product of what they’re creating features piano or not. The piano is not only an instrument, but also a visual representation of the way we understand music theory. The piano is the perfect place to learn how to build chords and modes. In this article, I will show you how to play the simplified versions of chords you’ll find in popular piano songs. Some of the chords in these songs feature alternative chord voicings, but we’ll show you the basic versions to help you get started. HIGHLIGHT: 1. Piano was invented early 18th Century. The invention of the piano is credited to Barthleomeo Cristofori. 2. He was born May 4, 1655 and 3. He died January 27, 1732. Age 75. DEFINITION OF MUSIC: It’s defined as the combination or arrangement of sound which when combined or played, is pleasant to the ear. And it is not without Rhymes (the lyrics of the music), Rhythm (beat of the music) and Melody (Tune of the music). NOTE: Another name for beat, is time signature. WHAT IS A MUSICAL KEYBOARD: A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent depressible levers or keys on a musical instrument. Keyboards, typically contain keys for playing the twelve notes of the Western musical scale, with a combination of larger, longer keys and smaller, shorter keys that repeats at the interval of an octave.
